Due to increased membership the canoe team has recently been expanded to take on 7 new trainee members. And good luck to them as training now begins so that they can take their 1 and 2 star assessments - the minimum skill requirement to be operational on call outs.

The Canoe Team is led by Stephen Postle and any member interested in joining needs to be on the full call out list and willing to undertake at least 6 additional training sessions with the full canoe team in each year as well as practise in their own time to keep up their fitness and skills. New canoe team members attend 2 introductory sessions where an initial assessment of their suitability for the Canoe team is made before going on to train for the 1 and 2 star. Those who already have the necessary qualifications need to speak to Stephen for more details of how to join.

History of the team :from the beginning of NorLSAR we have had a Canoe Section as half of the original committee were canoeists, and with the amount of water we have in the County. We have always see canoes as an important tool we can use to assist us with searching the rivers and Broads etc.

We mainly use open canoes as we feel these are the best type if we need to rescue someone, but we do have a number of kayaks that the team can use as well.

The Team are always looking for Corporate support, as the specialised kit that is needed can be expensive. If you would like to help and support the Team please contact our Secretary.
