EASTER HOLIDAY - SEARCH No 5:

Thanks to you and everyone involved in the search  Operation Clover, another example of the incredible support we receive from volunteer organisations and in particular NorlSAR. Despite carrying out many searches with NorlSAR I am always impressed with the enthusiasm and professionalism. For your members and those of Rover Rescue and Civil Protection to turn out in such atrocious weather and on a Bank Holiday weekend can only be commended at the highest level. Despite asking the question I am still waiting for someone to tell me the full story of where he had been and how he got there and as soon as I get this info will obviously let you know. I am arranging for formal recognition to be sent but wished to proceed with my personal thanks to all involved.

Russell Hickford Temp Inspector, Norfolk Constabulary.

The weather forecast had said cold and as we discovered "they were not wrong". Good Friday at 16.00 found a number of the team responding to a call out to meet at Salhouse railway station near Norwich, and as members turned up little did they know that this search would turn into one of our longest yet. Teams continued to be sent out over Saturday and were finally stood down on Easter Sunday afternoon. We were helped by Rover Rescue and our friends from Civil Protection, and thank you very much for the lifts and hot food. The search involved hours of searching woodland, industrial estates, paths and fields and despite the freezing conditions the turn out from the team was incredible. Thank you and well done to all those who helped. We were delighted the missing person was located safe and well and even though not found by us it was still a relief to hear the welcome news that he was home safe. With the freezing night time temperatures the fear of hypothermia was never far from searcher's minds. The search involved numerous foot teams, the bike team and the dog team at various stages over the three days, and through out control operated from Mr F's trusty land rover. No doubt those working in search control will now spend time looking for "lessons learned" and feedback so far has been very positive for the search teams.

No 4: Saturday 1st March when we were called  to Downham Market to help the police search for a missing man. We were joined by members of Cambridgeshire Lowland Search team and the teams covered miles of path ways. The young man's body was found by police divers and the team sends our condolences to his family and friends,

No 3: 4th February  at 09.00 again in Kings Lynn to search for an elderly man who had wandered from his home during the early hours. Fortunately he was found and we were stood down en route.

No 2: 21st January at 11.30 when the team was called back to Kings Lynn to search for a missing male. We were stood down en route with the news that he had been found.

The first CALL OUT of 2008 for Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue (NORLSAR) was in the early hours of the morning SATURDAY 5TH JANUARY, we were called out by Norfolk police to assist in the search for a missing male in the Gaywood area of Kings Lynn. The man had been reported missing during the evening and three teams from Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue began searching the area at 03.00am. Each team was accompanied by a local police officer and our friends from CP (Civil Protection volunteers). It was decided to end the search at 04.30 and as we travelled home to bed we learned that the man had turned up safe and well.
